Commissioned Work: MG Deathscythe Hell EW

Here's another weekend win for me. I was able to close a commissioned work deal with a client from UK. The client wanted an "Out-of-the-box" build of the 1/100 MG Gundam Deathscythe Hell. I never had one of these kits so this will be exciting for me. I might as well get one of these.
The image above was the box-art...looked very similar to Strike Freedom.

WIP: HG 1/144 S-Gundam

Back to business.
I'm currently working on a small project and I have here my HG 1/144 S-Gundam. This is a straight build with very little modifications plus a custom paint. I used Vallejo Air colors, air-brushed on most parts and detailed using the same material as well. I'm already done adding some decals on the upper body. Tomorrow I might add more decals if all goes well.

HobbyOwYeah - Custom Spraybooth

I’ve finally created my very own custom spray booth. Using a couple of cheap materials, I was able to design a very simple spray booth – and finally I can start/continue learning painting using my airbrush.

Materials used:

1. iBox (or any similar plastic container

2. Exhaust Fan (Be sure to check the specs of the fan as sometimes it may ignite the flammable fumes coming from the paint)

3. Switch

4. Electrical wire and plug

5. Washing machine hose

6. PET bottle

The assembly is pretty straightforward. First, I setup the wiring system by connecting the plug and cord and placing them on top of the container.

Cut a square hole at the back of the plastic container just big enough to fit the exhaust fan assembly.

Setup the proper exhaust position. I chose to keep the exhaust vent in upward position.

Connect the power cables to the exhaust fan.

Place the top of the PET bottle as a coupler on the exhaust vent.

Seal it with masking tape.

And there you have it. A simple custom spray booth!

Simple and cost efficient. Total amount was less than Php 2,000.00.

WIP: 1/100 MG Destiny Gundam

The Spray booth is still out of my worktable. So I just started another snapfit-build. This time, I chose the 1/100 MG Destiny Gundam. I can't say this is one of my favorite units. I just wanted to complete the "Strike Freedom-Infinite Justice-Destiny" trio. Unfortunately, the Infinite Justice was a mess. I constructed it sometime in 2010 and the moral lesson of that build - Never ever paint the parts while still attached to the runners. The Strike Freedom was messed up as well - Never apply oil-panel wash directly to a model kit, while still attached to the runner, especially when using Tamiya Enamels (more esp. without primers). I managed to save the Strike Freedom and it is still sitting under my worktable.

A few months and more lessons later, I think I learned my lesson. This time I will be doing it right.
So...now I bring you a snapfit-build of the MG Destiny Gundam.

Here's the box art. Notice the construction manual at the back. That manual came from a bootleg Gundam I tried to experiment on last year. It was from the TT HongLi Destiny Extreme Blast/burst mode. Apparently, the original Destiny Gundam construction manual was missing!!!

I had no choice but to stick to this manual hoping every bit of detailed construction was accurate.

WIP: 1/100 MG Gundam 00 Raiser - Assembly

Here's my latest WIP, the MG 1/100 Gundam 00 Raiser from the Gundam 00 series. I admit, I'm already a year behind with this model. But my excitement is still up and let's just say I'm saving the best for last. This is actually one of my favorite Gundams and when Bandai released the MG version, I immediately looked for one. The best part - I got it at a cheaper price from a forum. For whatever reasons, I kept the 00 Gundam under my worktable...untouched.

Hobby Ow Yeah! - Another Fresh Start

HobbyOwYeah has been slacking for quite sometime now...and I've got reasons.
Majority of those reasons came from my wedding. The preparations caused a lot of stress but the overall result was very cool. It was indeed one of the happiest and memorable events in my life.

So, back to my plastic modeling backlog - I have a lot of plastic models sitting under my worktable. Most of these were snap-fitted and waiting for some paint-job. I think the most important project that I won't finish on time will be my entry for the 2012 Mecha Contest. To my fellow hobbyists who joined the contest, congratulations. I had a great time watching your progress and I learned a lot. Hopefully there will be another Mecha Contest.

I remodeled this blog - HobbyOwYeah! - to start something new. Something fresh and cool (aside from being the coolest husband). I just decided to keep it slow and enjoy the hobby without too much pressure. This is a hobby after all. Maybe my wife will join me soon!

Meanwhile, I will have some upcoming projects to support my plastic modeling addiction!
- A Custom spraybooth
- New Airbrush (this will take a while)
- New set of Paint (I might hoard on Vallejo paints and throw away the toxicity of Tamiya acrylics)
- More military models!

Lastly, that picture above - the M1046 Humvee - was the first plastic model I worked on as a husband. Nothing to do here...except it was a Humvee.
